By Jens Christian Wandel, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and newly elected National Chairman of the Danish UN Association
23.11.2020 kl. 12.30 - 14.15
We are currently facing a socio-economic crisis caused by the Corona virus and the subsequent insecurity and the national measures intended to contain the spread of the virus. National measures may have some effect in containing the virus locally, but often ignore the fact that this is a global crisis, which does not respect national borders. We are only safe when everybody is safe.
What does this mean for the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the view of humanity that they represent? Should we put them on hold while we wait for the crisis to pass, or should we use them as a strategy for a global response to the current crisis and future preventive measures?
